- HØRSHOLM, Denmark, August 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Lars Seier Christensen, co-founder and CEO of Saxo Bank A / S, has acquired 43% of Rungsted Ice Hockey, an ice hockey club in Hørsholm Municipality on the Øresund coast north of Copenhagen, Denmark. "Lars Seier Christensen's investment in Rungsted Ice Hockey is the economic recognition we have been waiting for since we, a little more than two years ago, launched an ambitious three-year plan to return to the elite of Danish ice hockey. We have created a healthy company with big ambitions to win medals, and it has attracted good partners including Saxo Bank. We look forward to further developing the company, our partner network and sporting performance together with a successful entrepreneur and major investor as Lars Seier," says Thomas Friberg, CEO of Rungsted Ice Hockey Aps. Commenting on the investment, Lars Seier Christensen said "Ice hockey is an increasingly popular sport, not least because the World Ice Hockey Championships in 2018 will be held in Denmark and because the Metal League is now shown on TV. I expect that the increased exposure will be an opportunity to raise awareness of the sport in Denmark as a whole, but especially for a well-run company like Rungsted Ice Hockey. I have personally seen how much value the club's partner network has had on Saxo Bank. Both Saxo Bank clients in Denmark and our international clients have had some really good experiences at the club, and I am sure that the partner network, which is the club's main source of income, can be expanded with more partners and activities." Rungsted Ice Hockey announced before the summer that Denmark's national team captain, 34-year-old Morten Green is ready to return home to Danish ice hockey and boyhood club after 16 years abroad. Additionally, Rungsted Ice Hockey recently signed Captain Joachim Holten for a two-year contract. "It is such an exciting time in Ice Hockey. I'm glad that I now have the opportunity to be part of it in the run-up to the World Cup in 2018, the largest sporting event ever held on Danish soil," added Lars Seier Christensen. The upcoming season will not only be special for Rungsted Ice Hockey, but also for Saxo Bank's current sponsorship of Saxo Bank Arena, which, during the coming season, will be undergoing a significant transformation. The rebuilding of Saxo Bank Arena includes a new lounge area for the use of Rungsted Ice Hockey Partner Network, and the ice rink hall will be extended by six meters to the north, and get a completely different more bright, welcoming and open hall area at the entrance.
