- The Wrocław Opera will be the world's first theatre to begin celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Leonard Bernstein's birth. On 30 and 31 December 2017 it will be hosting the premiere of Candide directed by Hanna Marasz. The Wrocław Opera Orchestra will be conducted by Marcin Nałęcz-Niesiołowski, Director of the Wrocław Opera. In celebration of the Centennial, the Wrocław Opera has prepared a number of events under the shared title of The Polish Year at the Wrocław Opera. Following the premiere of Poland's first opera, Krakowiacy i Górale, which dates back to the 18th century, a concert for the 150th Anniversary of the birth of the father of Polish freedom, First Marshal Józef Piłsudski, and the Christmas Singing Families Tournament (Turniej Śpiewających Rodzin), the theatre will be staging performances with the music of Polish composers from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.
